Abou A Guest Houseby Ross Belfer | 13.11.18
The sun light glides across the rose and seafoam-colored walls of SPACE NUMBER 2, the new Israel Abou Guest House in Jaffa. On a slightly warm July morning, I entered a world of seamless contrasts of design, architecture and decor, where Gregory Abou, a Parisian transplant to Tel Aviv, has erected a physical experience suited for an unfussy-yet-particular audience.
The minimal two-bedroom guest house feels itself a departure from the overly cluttered, obsession-filled walls that fashion our urban homes — encapsulating a world of harmony and respite in an otherwise chaotic city. With SPACE NUMBER 2, the purveyor, artist, aesthete and yoga practitioner allows guests to purchase artwork, design pieces, lighting fixtures and ceramics that are located throughout the residence, while living in the very space itself.
Through his convergence of Japanese aesthetics and design principles, European-style furnishings and choice location in the Mediterranean city of Jaffa, Abou creates a transformative experience in the form of a home, a pillar, an oasis of inhabitable art.
